Rawtenstall
Clogs on the Cobbles Event held on Sunday 13th
December 2009
was enjoyed by all. Opera singer
Sean Ruane officially opened the event whilst the
Britannia Coconutters, Rossendale
Radio, numerous
bands and carol singers ensured that the crowds
were entertained throughout the day.
Rossendale
Hospice organised a Santa’s grotto to add
some true Christmas magic. Rossendale Council and
businesses are hoping to make this event an annual
attraction.
Fundraising Manager (and Chief Elf) Sam
Morris commented “The day had
a wonderful Christmassy atmosphere and we are
most grateful to the Council
for choosing us as the beneficiary of the event, James
Tricket & Sons Insurance for letting
us transform their office into a Santa’s
grotto. We would also like to thank Vicki
Calland at Musbury Fabrics for her assistance in creating
such a fabulous grotto, Patricia’s
Floral Fair for loaning us a Christmas tree and Asda for
providing some of the presents.

Donlon Completes Great North Run |
|
| Self
employed builder Anthony Donlon from
Langho, recently participated in the Grt North
Run to raise money
for Rossendale Hospice.
Anthony proudly comments “I have always
wanted to take part in the Gt North Run and knowing
that I could support the work of a worthy charity
really appealed to me. The atmosphere at the
Gt North Run was fantastic - I can understand
why it is Britain’s most popular marathon.
Thousands of people lined the streets to cheer
runners on and I also shook hands with Sting and ran besides Gordon
Ramsey! I completed the
13 mile marathon in 1hour 40 minutes and raised £350.00 for
Rossendale Hospice – thank you to everyone
who sponsored me”.

Whyment Sponsored Walk |
|
| Brian
Whyment (a former Day Therapy patient)
organised a sponsored walk around Clowbridge reservoir
on
Saturday 22nd
August 2009, which to date has raised in
excess of £2000! Hospice
Manager Irene
Smith remarked “Brian’s
courage and determination to raise funds on behalf
or Rossendale Hospice are an inspiration to many,
including his friends and fellow patients who
have joined him in this sponsored event. It
was Brian’s wish to use some of the
funds raised to buy a bingo machine which will
provide many hours entertainment for patients.
As a result of the publicity a bingo machine
has been kindly donated by ‘The Flowers’ pub
in Bacup. A big thank you
from all at the Hospice to Brian for arranging
this
event and to everyone who
is supporting either by walking on the day, or
who has sponsored the group – your kindness,
support and generosity will be of great benefit
to many.”

Civil War Re-enactment |

Civil War Re-enactment on Saturday 20th & Sunday
21st June 2009, staged by the Lancashire
Militia.
The car park was transformed into a battlefield
and Living History Camp. |
Normally the Lancashire
Militia charge an entrance fee to the Living
History Camp, but as all their expenses were
covered courtesy of Winfields people were encourage
to give donations to the hospice. Fundraising

are delighted Winfields invited
us to hold a collection at the store, which

| The
Heights of Snowdon |
|
| Steven
Kelly and Andrew Heath scaled
the heights of Snowdon (the
largest mountain in Wales) on 4th July 2009. The
duo braved awful weather conditions for 5 hours,
trekked nine miles, and climbed 3560ft to raise
money for us. Steven and Andrew informed
everyone of their challenge via facebook and sent
an e-mail
asking family, friends and work colleagues to sponsor
them via JustGiving, (which meant they didn’t
have to handle any monies themselves).
Within one
week they have raised a staggering £869.60!!!
(including Gift Aid).
Steven said “My mum and gran regularly
visit the hospice and I really appreciate the
help and support they have received. I understand
that the hospice relies on voluntary donations
to continue to provide services like my mum and
gran have accessed and I wanted to do something
to help. The conditions were so terrible that
that we probably wouldn’t have done if
it wasn’t for the sponsorship that motivated
us, but I am so glad I did – it is a great
feeling knowing that I have helped make a difference”.
